How Your Metabolic Rate Determines Weight Gain

Do you know any people who never gain weight, no matter how much they eat? Some people are lucky like that. They can eat pizza, fries, and just about anything else without seeming to gain an inch. Exercise aside, a person’s metabolic rate determines how hard or easy it is for them to gain weight. The metabolic rate is different for each person. That’s why some people never seem to gain any weight, even if they eat a lot and get very little exercise.

What Does the Metabolic Rate have to do with Weight Loss?

Your metabolic rate, sometimes simply referred to as metabolism, is the amount of calories your body burns in a day. The higher your metabolic rate, the harder it will be for you to gain weight. In addition to eating and exercise, your metabolic rate is what determines how fast you burn calories to use as fuel. Your metabolic rate is also affected by your age and genetics. A slow metabolic rate leads to weight gain because your body doesn’t burn enough calories.

You can power your metabolic rate by eating breakfast every morning. This gets your metabolism going first thing in the morning. Eating protein is also good because it takes more energy to digest it. You should also drink less alcohol. When you drink too much alcohol on a regular basis your body spends more time burning alcohol than fat. This really messes with your metabolism. There are also simple everyday things you can do to help your metabolic rate. When you go shopping during the daytime, consider parking far from the entrance. Take a walk during your lunch break instead of spending the entire hour eating. Little simple things like this can help you keep the pounds off.
